De Krim

Crimea is famous for most only because of the Black Sea Fleet or the Crimean War, but that's all. Well the Crimea is a peninsula situated between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov and is attached with Ukraine by an eight kilometre wide stroke of land. Ukraine is a former country of the Sovjet Union and you can find it in the South east corner of Europe. The peninsula has different landscapes. in the North there are the dry steps, in the South there are the mountains, forests and steep coast with long flat beaches in the west.

Already for a long, long time people are living at the Crimean shores. The Greeks, Turks, Scythen, Russians, Mongols en Crimean Tartar did change each other in history and did leave their marks at the peninsula. During this history there where some big wars at the Crimean soil. The last battle was solved in a friendly way, when the Sovjet union did fell apart in 1991. The in 1944, by Stalin deported Crimean Tartars turned back and Sevastopol was the Black Sea Fleet split up between Russia and Ukraine. Today the ships of this Black sea Fleet are still together to see at the Buchta of Sevastopol. That is something special, even for most of the Russian people, because they too could only enter Sevastopol with a special visa in the past. Crimea is also the place where in this history the famous writers like Puskin, Cechov end Tolstoj did live and got inspired by the mild climate and the magic nature. Crimea is already a long time the place what the Russians call "The Russian Riviera". At first the Tsars did build there Palaces and later the more fortunate Russians did built their big Datasha's to spend their holidays. Crimea is also discovered by the international traveller the last few years, but even well known, it is still not a place for mass tourism. For generations already for example Yalta, known for its mild climate is a famous bathing place and to compare with places like the French Riviera.
