Yalta situated at the South coast of the Crimean peninsula was during the 19th century one of the most important resorts of Crimea. With a population of about 150.000 inhabitants it's a middle big town at Crimea. At the 12th century the Polovtsians started to build this town and it was at first a part of the kingdom Feodoro. At the 14th century it was for the first time to see at a Italian map and called Healita or Etalita. At the 15th century the city was destroyed by an earthquake. The city was known as Yalta when the Greek and Armenians did settle there 70 years later. Because of the climate a lot of Tsars and Soviet leaders did build their palaces and dacha's in the area in witch they did live during the summer. The most beautiful example is the "Livadia" palace, what is used from February 4 until 11, 1945 to have the conference of Yalta. At this conference Roosevelt, Churchill en Stalin made and signed the treaty of peace about how to divide Germany and end world war II. Now it is well known because of it's beaches as a holiday resort.
